You already have some idea as to what the next few days holds in store. But then, there is the inevitable. The inevitable surprise, the curve ball, the gotcha.
You have a plan for the coming days.
You are ready to execute the plan.
But what if you realize you underestimated the size of the task?
It is much larger than you originally thought.
Do you stop or quit?
Certainly not.
You may contemplate defeat for a moment, but then that moment has to pass.
You are faced with an uphill, larger than you, battle.
However, as you go into the this challenge, your overwhelming task may not even be work related.
What if your task is to eliminate any distraction from your life that causes you to lose focus on the obstacle ahead?
What if your task is to begin an exercise routine?
What if your task is to begin an addiction program?
What if your task is to merely physically get out of bed?
Whatever your task is, I want to encourage you to keep moving forward.
And consider these nine steps.
- Gather yourself and breathe deeply.
- Read one email at a time and respond.
- Move one piece of paper at a time and file it accordingly.
- Smile that you are on your way.
- Sip your coffee or water or tea.
- Repeat Step 1.
- Repeat Step 2.
- Repeat Step 3.
- Consider yourself well on your way.
As you go into this possibly overwhelming circumstance, do not be frightened by the size of the task in front of you.
Just be strong and courageous and get to work.
Thank you John. This reminder is needed in probably our biggest challenge yet. I know we’re going to make it!
Nancy:
Here is my prayer. That the only voice that you listen to is the voice of God as He speaks to you, and brings peace and confidence to your heart and your spirit. “Do not be frightened by the size of the task.”, because the size of your task is infinitely smaller than the size of your God.
John
You are absolutely right. I need to put it on my desk, the kitchen cabinet, stick it to the top of my computer, hang it by the phone, put it on the fridge, put it in my garden, etc. etc. I need every day to commit it to memory until it melds with my spirit. Thank you, John, for once again knowing just where I am. And thank you for letting the Holy Spirit guide you in exactly what we need to hear. Kitty
Kitty:
Today, I pinned these verses near my desk phone and read it over and over again today, and will do so again tomorrow.
