Seems easy to remember…much more to difficult to live out.
Singer / songwriter Amy Grant recounted the most practical non-music related advice she ever received.
It was from a World War II veteran, Jimmy Gentry.
Amy described him as a sweet southern gentleman who joined the military at sixteen years of age, because his brothers did.
At seventeen he saw some of the most heartbreaking and heartwarming scenes as he was there to witness the freeing of those in the Nazi concentration camps.
Many years later he would tell Amy Grant that he found in life there are only 5 phrases we need to live by, only 5.
Amy said Jimmy put 5 fingers up to emphasize the 5 things with the related phrases or words and cause her to remember.
5 fingers up.
How can I help you?
4 fingers up.
I’m proud of you.
3 fingers up.
I love you.
2 fingers up.
Thank you.
1 finger up.
We.
“If you look at life as a “we”, it changes everything.”, Jimmy said.
Which caused me to consider as I write this entry, I have now spent six decades trying to convert my “me” to a “we”.
Only to find out the answer was right there all the time, on my five fingers.
