“Wear the hat?” “Yes, wear the hat.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. Step out there. Be different.”
“I’m not wearing the hat.”
“Okay. But how does it feel to be swimming in a sea of gray?”
Such is the conversation with daughters.
I find it very appealing when a woman can pull off a hat.
It says something.
It says, “I can make a ball cap or any ole floppy hat be me.”
For any of us, the temptation to blend in, to fit the mold, to be like the rest, is an every day battle.
But why blend in?
You disappear as an individual.
You are now just one more gray drop of water in a sea of gray.
You should be distinguishable from all others.
You were made that way.
Otherwise we would all share the same fingerprint and DNA.
But we don’t.
To stand out does not mean you go throughout the day screaming, “Look at me! Look at me!”
To stand out means that you are noticed, by at least one other individual, on any given day.
To stand out goes beyond physical attraction anyway.
To stand out means you did one thing that no one else was willing to do.
You were kind to the mistreated.
You were patient with the wait you had to endure.
You affected the day.
Be the one individual who wants to be who you are.
Not just one more invisible drop of water in a sea of gray.
